Dogs require protection from several contagious diseases. Core vaccines for dogs include rabies (which is required by law), distemper, parvovirus, and adenovirus. These diseases can cause severe illness or death, making vaccination essential for all dogs.
Depending on your dog’s lifestyle and exposure risks, we may also recommend certain non-core vaccines. Dogs who visit boarding facilities, dog parks, or grooming salons benefit from the Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine. Dogs in areas with Leptospirosis or who spend time near wildlife and standing water should receive this vaccine as well. We’ll discuss your dog’s routine and recommend appropriate protection.

Cats also need protection from dangerous diseases. Core vaccines for cats include rabies and FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia). These diseases spread easily and can be life-threatening, especially to kittens and immunocompromised cats.
For cats who go outdoors or live with outdoor cats, we may recommend the non-core feline leukemia (FeLV) vaccine. This virus spreads through close contact and has no cure, making prevention critical for at-risk cats. Indoor-only cats with no exposure to outdoor cats typically don’t require this vaccine.
The series begins at 6-8 weeks of age and continues every 3-4 weeks until your pet is about 16 weeks old. Adult pets require booster vaccinations at intervals ranging from annually to every three years, depending on the vaccine and your pet’s risk factors. We’ll work with you to ensure you know your pet’s vaccination schedule and send out reminders to help you stay on track.
